In addition to the Liu Institute event, Ari Belathar is also participating in the following Vancouver events:
Laughing at Borders: An Evening of Theatre and Politics with Ari Belathar
Presented by SFU’s Vancity Office of Community Engagement
Wednesday, September 19, 2012, 7pm
World Art Centre – Room 2555, SFU
FREE
In the first ever reading of La Danza del Venado in Western Canada, working with local Vancouver-based actors, Ari unpacks the fallacy, futility and mortality of borders. By reflecting on these legal and illegal journeys–and the responses by multiple actors: legislators, religious leaders, politicians, medical professionals, border agents, neighbors, smugglers, farmers and ranchers–Ari opens up the larger questions of the role of art and poetics and self within the fields of transition and justice.
