Canadian solidarity and human rights organizations based in BC, Ontario and Quebec have been working together to organize the visit to Canada of family members of the missing students from Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, who were attacked and disappeared by Mexican state security forces in the state of Guerrero, Mexico on September 26, 2014. This tour, which we are calling the “Caravan from Ayotzinapa to Ottawa”, will bring Hilda Legideño Vargas, mother of Jorge Antonio Tizapa Legideño, one of the disappeared students from the Normal Raul Isidro Burgos; Jorge Luis Clemente Balbuena, a member of the Student Committee at Ayotzinapa school; and Vidulfo Rosales Sierra, member of the Human Rights organization Tlachinollan and legal representative of the families of the 43 Ayotzinapa students.
The Caravan is scheduled to take place from April 12 to May 2, 2015.
As we know many of you have been organizing or participating in activities to support different struggles in Mexico, and in some cases the families in Ayotzinapa in particular, we invite you to join us at a pot-luck meeting to chat about the Caravan and together find ways of collaboration and coordination to make this tour a success.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at ayotzinapa2ottawa@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
The BC Organizing Committee: Co-Development Canada (CoDev), Amnesty International Vancouver, and Comuna of CIPO-RFM in Vancouver (CIPO-VAN)
