The Research Seminar in Latin American Studies is pleased to present:
Carolina Navarrete (Latin American Studies), “Resistance and Territory in Mapuche Women’s Poetry”
March 22, 2017, 3:00-4:30pm
Research Institute, 1st Floor, Liu Institute for Global Issues
This presentation centers around the concepts of territoriality, resistance and displacement in Mapuche women’s poetry written during the last decades in Chile. Drawing from a diverse corpus of poems, we will examine how poetry expresses particular ways of belonging that spring from conceptions of time and space influenced by the historical struggle of Mapuche people for their land, as well as by their need to adapt to new urban and heterogeneous spaces.
