Latin America, Politics, and Art: Call for UBC student presentation
Network with like-minded students and gain experience with public speaking!
Leading up to the Chan Centre presentations of both Gilberto Gil (April 12, 2015) and Lila Downs (April 26, 2015), we are looking to engage UBC students and explore issues related to the role of the arts in the political transactions of Latin America.
The event will consist of a series of presentations inspired by the PechaKucha format, where participants display 20 static images, shown for 20 seconds each, in conjunction with the presenter’s spoken explanation, all linked to a common theme.
THEME: Reflective of Latin American culture, presentations will be inspired by the idea of art being the variable of change in totalitarian regimes. How can we change the political situations of our countries with the use of visual images, sound, language, theatre, etc.? We hope that this theme will invite presenters to share a wide variety of experiences and thoughts on what these ideas might mean to them. The sky’s the limit.
WHEN & WHERE: The event will take place on Wednesday, March 25th, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Multipurpose Room at the Liu Institute for Global Issues at UBC (6476 NW Marine Dr.). Free refreshments will be provided!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Open to all UBC students! Please email Valentina Montilla at montilla@mail.ubc.ca by Friday, February 27th with a brief outline of your proposed presentation. See more at http://www.chancentre.com/blog/2015/02/call-student-submissions-latin-america-politics-art
