Gran Malón for Carmen Aguirre
Monday, June 9, 2014, 7:30-11pm
Heritage Hall, 3102 Main Street, Vancouver (at 15th Ave.)
Doors open at 7:15 pm.
A stellar group of readers and performers will join Carmen on stage that evening: comedian and political satirist Lalo Espejo, award-winning novelist and poet Carmen Rodriguez, and acclaimed actors/playwrights Lucia Frangione, Leanna Brodie and Jovanni Sy.
In the spirit of a Gran Malón, the evening will hold many more delights: homemade empanadas, desserts from some of Vancouver’s finest bakers, the chance to mingle with a simpatico crowd–and an hour of dancing at the end with DJ Adriana!
With our big media push approaching, we expect this fundraiser to sell out in advance. Our ticket pricing is creative: $20 to $500. On our eventbrite site, you can buy a ticket, choose to attend virtually, or simply make a donation. All proceeds will go to Carmen Aguirre.
Don’t miss the event of the season. Order your tickets now!
Note: if you’d prefer to donate by cheque or bank transfer, contact us at granmalon@gmail.com for details.
A background refresher: Carmen, author of the national bestseller Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter, which won Canada Reads in 2012, was owed $60,000 in royalties when D&M Publishers went bankrupt later that year. She has never received any of that money. Carmen makes her living as a writer and an independent theatre artist, and whatever we raise through this campaign will go directly to her.
