The Cultural Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, the Consulate General of Chile in Vancouver and Iberoamerican Images are proud to present “Cine Chile 2012, A Festival of Contemporary Chilean Cinema in Canada.”
Cine Chile 2012 is the continuation of previous efforts (2006 and 2008) made by the different participants in this endeavour to bring to Canada recent releases from one the most prolific film industries in Latin America.
Cine Chile 2012 will present five of the newest Chilean films and will run in Vancouver from November 30 to December 6 at Vancity Theatre.

Violeta Went to Heaven (2011)
The film traces the evolution of iconic musician, folk singer, poet and artist Violeta Parra from her impoverished childhood to international sensation. The film captures the ups and downs of a life that both transformed and propelled Latin American music. Winner of Sundance World Cinema Dramatic Jury Prize.
Salt (2012)
A Spanish screenwriter struggling with his latest script decides to scout the location where is set. In a desert town in the North of Chile he is mistaken for a long lost gunslinger, which brings him a lot of trouble as well as inspiration for writing a classic western film. The Year of the Tiger (2011)
Manuel runs away from a prison that is wrecked by an earthquake. Amidst a country in ruins and wary of police, the fugitive goes go back home to find it in shambles, his wife and daughter gone, probably dead. Winner of Independent Jury Award at Locarno Film Festival.
Ulysses (2011)
The film looks at the life of a Peruvian immigrant in Chile who is reduced to working at a series of menial jobs well below his capacities. A portrait of a character with as much of a sense of importance as if he were the subject of timeless myth. Winner of Best Film at Santiago International Film Festival.
Roman’s Circuit (2010)
Neuropsychologist, Roberto Román proved as a young man that memories physically migrate within the brain when made conscious. Ten years later as visiting professor at his alma mater in Chile, Roman must face parts of his life that perhaps he had chosen to forget.
